“My work combines realism and impressionism with an occasional abstract twist. I love using broad brush strokes and exaggerated color to capture the energy, movement, and expressions of my subjects.”
Denise's paintings reflect the domestic animals, wildlife, and natural imagery of the west. Essentially self-taught thus far, she has recently studied under well-known contemporary artist Linda St. Clair.
As a child she spent countless hours watching her father paint southwest landscapes. It sparked an interest that filled all electives in school with various art classes. However, her aptitude in science and parent's practical expectations of college lead her to several science degrees and a long rewarding career in laboratory medicine.
"Many years after my father passed away I came across an unfinished painting of his. Using his old oil paints I finally got up the nerve to complete the painting. I was horribly afraid of ruining the beautiful beginning of one of his last legacies. Little did I know I was beginning a new journey, following my early passion for painting.”
Denise now resides in Morgan Hill, CA with her husband and two dogs, after spending the majority of her life in NM. When not spending time with family and watching their grandkids, she and her husband love international travel, as well as the CA coast and wine country. AND painting of course!!
